08 July 2004 -- PMN -- Sprint PCS has announced the launch of a 1.3 megapixel CDMA2000 1x camera phone manufactured by Audiovox. The clamshell device features one of the highest specifications of any handset available in the US, including dual 260,000 colour TFT displays, 8x digital zoom and an intregrated flash.

NEWS: Motorola announces new low cost iDEN handset

08 July 2004 -- PMN -- Motorola has announced the i710, an iDEN handset aimed at a previously untapped customer segment of small businesses. The flip-style product is focused on ease-of-use, but also includes features such as Java application support, GPS and a colour display.

NEWS: Orange sells Danish business to TeliaSonera

08 July 2004 -- Bloomberg -- TeliaSonera AB, the Nordic region's largest phone company, agreed to buy Orange SA's Danish unit for 600 million euros (USD 742 million) in cash, more than doubling its market share in the country.

NEWS: Existing handset partners strengthen commitment to Symbian

07 July 2004 -- PMN -- Symbian's existing shareholders from the handset manufacturing community have strengthened their commitment to the operating systems venture, agreeing to participate in a new rights offering and excercising their pre-emption rights to acquire the Symbian shares being sold by Psion.

NEWS: Motorola Wi-Fi handset approved

02 July 2004 -- PMN -- The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has approved the first Motorola handset to integrate Wi-Fi and GSM into a single device. Motorola has a been a vocal supporter of such convergence and may be the first to offer a commercial product capable of handing off calls between the cellular and wireless LAN environments.

NEWS: NEC experiments with touchscreen handsets in China

02 July 2004 -- PMN -- NEC is launching two touchscreen handsets, the N610 (picture) and N620, in the Chinese market. The devices are intended to provide better support for Chinese text input and follow the trend of handset manufacturers opting for touchscreen interfaces in China: Nokia and Motorola have also announced similar products in recent months.

NEWS: JSR 232 key to next generation Java applications

02 July 2004 -- PMN -- Java Specification Request (JSR) 232 will be a crucial step in improving the capabilities of Java applications on mobile devices. Originally submitted by Nokia, the JSR calls for the development of a middleware framework to allow individual components of a Java application to be installed, removed or repaired on-the-fly.
