Boost extends Quicksilver handset deal
11 November 2003 --
PMN -- Boost Mobile, which provides a 'lifestyle' MVNO service for young consumers in the US, Australia and New Zealand, has extended its merchandising deal with Quicksilver to include a branded handset targeted at young males. It has also extended a
previous agreement to produce a handset carrying Quicksilver's female-focused 'Roxy' brand.
Boost has been selling the Roxy handset, manufactured by Motorola, in the US since November 2002. It has already introduced the Quicksilver product in Australia earlier this month and will launch it in the US during March 2004. Exclusive features include the Quicksilver branding and direct links to mobile internet surf reports.
Boost operates as an MVNO on Nextel's iDEN network in the US, providing pre-pay access to features such as push-to-talk and game downloads.
"Quiksilver is excited to expand our strategic alliance with Boost
Mobile to launch the new Quiksilver Phone and continue the Roxy Phone
partnership," said Bob McKnight, CEO of Quiksilver. "Boost Mobile's
innovative phones deliver a truly culture-driven wireless experience, and
blend perfectly with the Quiksilver lifestyle brand and action sports
personality."
"Boost Mobile has had a fantastic relationship with Quiksilver for the
past four years, since our brand first launched in Australia," said Peter
Adderton, CEO of Boost Mobile. "The brands of Boost Mobile and Quiksilver
are perfectly aligned in that both companies have successful products
designed to appeal to the young active lifestyle. We have found that girls
love the Roxy phone in the United States, and we expect that the
Quiksilver phone will also be hugely popular in both the United States and
Australia. We always wanted Boost Mobile to be the brand that youth around
the world think of when they think of communications, and this is yet
another step in achieving that recognition."
In a separate announcement Boost said that it was launching 55 new Java game downloads on its web portal.
